The Empress is a maternal symbol. She is the mother figure who loves, nurtures and protects.
She will protect you, she will always be there when you are in trouble. When you fall over and graze your knee, the Empress will kiss it better.
Yet she is not a weak figure. Her compassion is strength. If her children are threatened she will stop at nothing to protect them. If well aspected in a Tarot spread, the Empress can symbolise security, protection and unconditional love. If badly aspected it can represent over-protectiveness, fear of risk taking and refusal to face the real world.

I had to renew my membership in the American Tarot Association today. I took the opportunity to read the latest issue of their monthly magazine and came upon a great article that I posted a portion of on my other blog so I thought I'd share it here as well. There are a few web sites that I enjoy as well that are tarot related and I thought I'd share some of the links here as well:
www.tarottotes.com (great tarot bags at affordable prices. I have a lot of them LOL)
Follow the Love We all know the difference between being energized by a situation or person, or being drained by that interaction. Or the feeling of doing something joyfully and willingly, versus the feeling of doing it simply because it's "supposed" to be done. Certainly we all need to do some things that we're supposed to do, like take out the garbage or pay the electric bill or eat nutritious foods.
But heaven help us if we allow "I'm supposed to..." to make the bigger decisions in our lives: "I'm supposed to be married to you," "I'm supposed to be a doctor," "I'm supposed to have children," "I'm supposed to make $100,000 a year..."
Joseph Campbell used the term "follow your bliss," and many people mistook it for selfishness. It is not selfish to honor and protect oneself, and by that definition, living authentically requires that we pay attention to how our personal energy is spent, and to how we connect with others. Follow the Love means that we recognize the people, places, and things that feed and nurture us, and distinguish these from others that might sap our energy. We learn to look for the seed of truth in the things that make us feel good.
What a concept!
That's the inner version of Follow the Love, but this Key has an outer component, as well. We often try to convince other people of our truth, justify our choices to them, or look to them for affirmation as their stamp of approval. We often don't receive it. Remember: for all the people who might criticize our choices along the path of authenticity, there are an equal (and perhaps greater) number who would offer encouragement and support. Which voices are you listening to? Follow the Love.
Thanks to my two new friend requests I am back on covenspace! Out of the blue came a second friend request and I saw it as a "sign" to get back into the swing a bit. The site is delightful but I have to say that it is impossible to upload via AOL. It's incredibly slow. I am finggestding internet explorer to be much better at loading so hopefully this will spur me on.
I did a nice solitary ceremony for the new moon in April. The black candle I lit was very fiesty. It flickered and burned down much more quickly than the other two candles did. I'd like to think that the candle held within it the energy of this new moon period which is supposed to be an active time. We'll see!
My biggest thing I've been doing is washing away the negativity with many many sea salt baths. LOL I find that they are very therapeudic and a nice prelude to magickal work.
I am looking forward to planting my herb garden later this spring. I put everything in pots because it's easier that trying to get the stuff into the hard soil we have. LOL I will be thinking in terms of herbs I want to dry come fall as opposed to what I will be using for cooking. I KNOW I will be growing catnip for the kittens! Beyond that, still thinking....
I ordered a fun pagan fiction book written by Kala Trobe called "Magickal Bookstore". I can't wait to read it! It has a hint of being an adult Harry Potter book, not sure yet though. I also ordered her book on "A Witches' Life" which sounds interesting from the small bit of it I got to read. I am a big fan of Rosemary Edghill's "Bast Mysteries" but these days I'm not so much in the mood for mysteries so this straight up fiction book sounding appealing.
It's 81 degrees here today and tomorrow we're expecting snow. Typical Colorado! LOL Next week I am heading up to Rocky Mountain Natl Park area for a couple of days and am looking forward to some hiking, shopping and good food. I will definitly do some tarot while up in the park if my fingers aren't frozen from the cold. LOL
I absolutely LOVE this time of year. Here in Colorado the days are still warm and the nights are delightfully chilly. The leaves are turning fast. For me there is pure magic in the air this time of year. My soul comes alive and my spirit dances with joy. LOL My energy level is high for a change and I'm taking full advantage of it. I have been doing solitary ceremonies for the full moon and the new moon for a few years now. Recently I have been joined by my new friend LunarBrat who is very good with the ways of magic. Thus far I have learned much from him and still have a LOT to learn. I find it so much fun when shared with another but am still not interested in a coven since I am very ecletic in my tastes. Hmmm that's just a fancy word for all over the place! LOL When I do things alone admittedly I am sloppy with ceremony and that's where LunarBrat is helping me as well.
My favorite divination tool is the tarot. I do tarot readings for a living and very much enjoy what I do. I have waaaay too many decks of course. On a daily basis I use Llewellyn andTarot of the Moon Garden. During this season I have my Halloween tarot out in my living room and I pull a daily card from it and read the fun description. It's a great deck!
I'm looking forward to meeting new people on this site and am grateful to LunarBrat for directing me here!
